Over fifteen years ago, Paul R. Mettler, PT, DPT, developed a new way to treat a wide variety of acute and chronic injuries.
Since that time, the results have been outstanding. This new approach to treatment
allows for the successful identification and treatment of scar tissue.
According to Ben E. Benjamin, PhD, adhesive scar tissue formation is, in most
cases, the source of chronic pain in the musculoskeletal system. When injury
occurs from a mild muscle strain or as a result of major surgery, the body develops
scar tissue in an effort to heal. As a result, scar tissue forms in random patterns
or adheres inappropriately to adjacent structures, resulting in pain. As stated
by Dr. Benjamin, “the scar tissue is like glue poured into the wrong places,
causing independently moving structures to stick together.” Movement that
pulls, stretches, or compresses the area by cutting off the blood supply where
scar tissue has formed causes pain.
Mettler Release Technique (MRT®)
MRT® protocol involves the successful identification
of the source of your pain and treatment of the involved scar tissue and surrounding
area. Once the adhesive scar tissue has been treated, a reduction or elimination
of pain results, movement is restored, and normal strength can be rebuilt. Probably
the most significant benefit to this form of treatment is the objective, immediate,
and most often long-lasting results. This ground-breaking treatment in the rehabilitation
of acute and chronic injuries is just one method used by Mettler therapists.
With over 10 years of proven research, MRT® promises to be one of the
most fundamental advancements in the rehabilitative field since the origin of
physical therapy.
