SPORTS PERFORMANCE SYMPOSIUM

Mettler Athletic proudly welcomes the Gatorade Sports Science Institute to it’s inaugural Sports Performance Symposium. The Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI) is a research and educational facility established in 1988 to share current information and expand knowledge on sports nutrition and exercise science that enhance the performance and well-being of athletes.

Quench your thirst of knowledge for leading sports science information and move to the next level. Open to the general public and special guests, this seminar is designed specifically for parents of athletes, coaches, and athletic personnel, as well as kinesiology, exercise physiology, and sports-related healthcare students and professionals.

Keynote Speaker

Craig Horswill, PhDCraig Horswill, PhD, a Senior Research Fellow from the Gatorade Sports Science Institute will be the featured presenter. He is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine and the North American Society for Pediatric Exercise Medicine. Dr. Horswill’s current research interests focus topics on the effects of dehydration and the diet on human physical performance and well being.

Horswill has a PhD doctorate in Physical Education (Exercise Physiology) at the University of Illinois, a master’s degree in Physical Education (Exercise Physiology) from the University of Wisconsin and a bachelor’s degree in Science Education from the University of Wisconsin. Local sports enthusiasts will remember Dr. Horswill as the head wrestling coach at Champaign Central High School (1978–1982) while completing his doctoral work.

This year, the symposium will cover four different areas of focus for the competitive athlete—hydration, nutrition, rehabilitation, and psychology.

Pay Attention to What? Teaching Athletes to Focus – Brent Walker, PhD

Each presentation is 45 minutes with a 15 minute Q&A session immediately following.
