The best part about my job is working with individuals who want to improve and helping them see breakthroughs in their fitness level/athletic performance.
My favorite thing to do outside of work is relax and watch
TV and movies.
I recharge by sleeping late and eating a big
breakfast.
My favorite sport to watch is track and field.
My favorite sports hero is Michael Jordan.
My favorite sports to play are distance running, badminton,
and racquetball.
My role models are my dad (Bill Derks) and my high school and
college cross country coaches (Lisa Wycoff and John McInerney).
My favorite form of exercise is running.
My favorite group fitness class is cycling.
My drink of choice is water.
Early bird or night owl? Neither. I like to go to bed early
and sleep late!
I decided to help athletes move to the next level because it
is fun to see young athletes get serious about their sports and their desire
to do anything they can to improve. That's how I was, and now I want to help
others achieve their desired goals.
One training/conditioning mistake a lot of athletes make is
not knowing “why” they are doing what they are doing.
Before I begin training an athlete, it’s important to get to
know the athlete and understand what his/her goals are.
I most enjoy working with athletes who are dedicated to improving
and have strong character.
The athletes I’ve been most pleasured to work with are the
ones who I can tell want to do their absolute best. They are in the sport for
the right reasons.
I most enjoy watching athletes who I have coached, and I know
all the hard work that went into their performance.
I enjoy helping athletes who want to be helped.
My least favorite training exercise is stretching. I am not
very flexible.
Strength or cardio? Cardio.
